The Best Weatherproof Winter Boots for the Office
Hey gents, today we are going to talk about winter boots. The questions that I seem to get around boots are about the boots that are good for the office but can also stand up against the slush and rain that occurs when the temperatures lower.
So, let’s talk about what to look for if you’re looking for a great winter boot that’s also great for the office. There are a ton of options and I will also point you to a video I did last year with some of my YouTube friends. There are some great options there and today, I pulled together some of my favorite boots that are great for the winter and for the office.
The key things that you are going to want to look for in a boot that is good for winter is an oil-based leather or specifically labeled as weather-proof because not all leathers are created equal. You’ll also want to look for something with a rubber, Vibram, or a Dainite sole. Leather soles are not going to be great for winter.
You can also look for weatherproof suedes and you can look for weatherproof sprays for your boots. I’ll get more into that when we get to my Thursdays. I’ll put links to everything in this post. None of it is sponsored. They’re also just me pulling together great data for you so thank you for watching. Let’s get into it.
Allen Edmonds Storm Welt Collection
I think the first place to look is the Allen Edmonds Stormwelt collection. These are the boots I recommend to most men. They have a whole collection where the entire premise of the construction of the shoe is that it uses a weather-proof leather. The whole shoe also has a waterproof membrane around it to keep you safe just in case too much liquid gets on your shoe.
The shoe is Goodyear welt so it is re-craftable and it’s all made in the U.S.A. The shoe comes out to around $400 which means it’s in that higher price tier but boots are that kind of outwear where you get what you pay for.
You want to keep your feet dry and looking good and I think Allen Edmonds is a great place to look. They’re specifically made to get wet but they still give off an office vibe. So, if you’re looking for a great pair of winter boots, Allen Edmonds is a great place to start.
Thursday Boot Duke Chelsea Boot
Next, we’re going to talk about a boot that I’ve reviewed a couple of times on the channel and I’ve been impressed with. This is the Thursday Duke Chelsea boot and it is made of a weatherproof suede. I’ve said in the past that this has become one of my defacto winter boots because I’m so impressed with how well the suede resists water while still looking good.
I find that at $199 they’re a great value to start with. At this price point, it’s really hard to beat these. They also make the Captain boot and a few others that are winter-ready along with some Chelsea boots if you’re interested in those.
Nisolo Boots
The Nisolo Boots are a newer player. These are a shoe made in Mexico priced at $288 with an oil-based leather that is made to be weatherproof. They have a rubber Vibram sole on the bottom and the business casual look that is going to look great with jeans and chinos. However, they’re also rugged enough to stand up to constant commuting through any kind of weather.
I also think that these boots are a great year-round boot overall. This is my first brush with Nisolo’s boots, but so far I’m impressed with the stuff that they’re doing.
Red Wing Iron Ranger
How could we talk about boots without some Red Wings? The Red Wing Iron Ranger is more refined than the Red Wing’s classic Moc Toe, but they’re a great premium leather option for the office and for outside.
The Red Wings are usually in the $300 range. However, you can always find deals on their shoes. There are also the Red Wing Beckman’s which gives you the heritage aspect of bootmaking but in a more sophisticated nature.
If you want some alternatives to the Red Wing brand, Carl Murawski has an excellent video where he highlights some great substitutes. So, if you want some aspects of the Iron Ranger but you want to keep it under $300, definitely check out his video.
Carl also recommended the Wolverine 1000 Miler boot which is really rugged but can also thread that line between being weatherproof and durable and also being a shoe that can be worn in an office environment.
Another shoe Carl recommended was the Viberg Service Boot. Now, this is a high-priced boot even above Allen Edmonds at $670. It’s an absolutely beautiful boot worth with great weatherproof qualities so if you’re looking to take a step further towards a higher quality boot, definitely check them out.
